Frequently Asked Questions
+ Where is therapy provided?
We pride ourselves in the flexibility of our delivery options for therapy: in our office, teletherapy (via the computer), in your home, or the child's school or daycare! We don't want a busy schedule to come in the way of your child getting the services they need. Location of services will be a discussion with your therapist and depend on therapist's schedule and availability.
+ Does my child need speech/feeding/occupational therapy?
We’d love to chat with you about your needs! Please use the Contact page to schedule a free consultation call to discuss your concerns, why you are considering therapy, and start creating a plan of action to best support you and your child!
+ How long are therapy sessions?
Most speech and feeding sessions are scheduled for 30 minutes, which includes time to review the session and discuss home programming recommendations with the caregivers. Occupational therapy sessions are typically 1 hour. We always tailor our session length to what best fits your child’s needs and attention span.
+ Won’t my child just “grow out of it"?
We know the advice to "just wait and see" is frequently given to families with a child experiencing speech delays, feeding concerns, regulation difficulties, etc. However, we are big proponents of early intervention as soon as possible to help get them on the right path and prevent any issues from persisting or worsening. It is much easier to change small habits in the beginning than it is to rewire neural pathways in older children!
+ My child was already evaluated elsewhere, do we have to go through the evaluation process again?
If your child’s evaluation was within the past 6 months, we may able to use that in lieu of our own evaluation to begin services! If it was over 6 months ago or is incomplete, we will need to do another evaluation as children’s skills can change so quickly and we want to be sure our plan of care is meeting all of their current needs.
+ How long will my child be in therapy?
The short answer: it varies! Length of therapy is not something that can be accurately predicted and depends on what is being targeted, severity, follow-through with home programs, and motivation, among other things. We’ve seen some children for as little as 4 months, and others for years!
+ Do you accept insurance?
Therapy Adventures is in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas (BCBS TX HMO and PPO) and Scott & White Health Plan (SWHP) at this time. We are an out of network provider with all other insurances and offer a superbill after payment of sessions that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Please click here to learn more about out of network service and superbills. We encourage families to call their insurance provider to determine coverage for speech therapy and ask if superbills are accepted.
+ How much does an evaluation or therapy cost?
If you use an insurance plan that we are in network with, cost will be dependent upon your specific plan's coverage. We offer competitive out of network/private pay rates and are happy to share those with families. As they are subject to change, please submit a quick request here asking for our current rates. Payment is due at the time of service by cash, check, or card.
+ What's the process for starting therapy?
We recommend an exploratory phone call or "consultation call" first to make sure we're a good fit and answer any preliminary questions before scheduling an evaluation. We will do our best to answer any questions and appreciate an opportunity to speak with you directly about our services, scheduling, and working with insurance.
If you decide you are interested in pursuing services after speaking with someone on our team, we will create a digital chart for your child and send over the intake forms virtually via our Client Portal. Upon receipt of the completed intake forms, we will contact you to schedule an evaluation. We cannot schedule an evaluation until we receive the completed intake forms. We do our very best to schedule an appointment as quickly as we can and to make your waiting time as short as possible. However, because appointments often remain filled for extended periods of time, it is occasionally necessary for children to be placed on an appointment waiting list prior to being scheduled. Waiting times vary – based on the time requested and the time of the year your intake is received. The beginning and end of the school year are usually our busiest seasons and we usually we receive an influx of intakes at these times.
Due to the high desirability of late afternoon/after school appointment times for established patients, new patient evaluations are scheduled in the mornings on weekdays. We are happy to provide an excuse note as needed for any missed school or other activities.
